What Do I Need To Be Able To Participate In This Course?
- A Class 4 medical certificate – The medical is required to allow us to apply for your cabin crew member’s license with the SACAA.
- Minimum of 18 years of age at the time of writing the SACAA examination – or older
- Proficiency in English
A Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 certificate is not required for the cabin crew licensing training course however it is normally a minimum requirement when airline operators advertise positions for cabin crew members.

Medical Assessment
A Front view chest X-ray for initial cabin crew members is required prior to making an booking with an aviation medical examiner as this x-ray forms part of the medical assessment. Burger radiologists in Arwyp clinic in Kempton Park charges can assist wtih this x-ray. You are not required to make an booking when undertaking this x-ray as the radiologists work on a first come, first serve basis. Once you have had your chest x-ray taken you need to make an appointment with an Aviation doctor. The chest x-ray MUST be taken with to the Aviation doctor in order to get your medical certificate.
Should you be having your medical in Midrand, you can also have your X-ray done at the X-Ray Department, Room 6, Health Emporium, Corner Church and Market Streets, Halfway House, Midrand. Their cost for the X-ray is R400 and their telephone number is 011 312 3942/78

This site lists the accredited Drs. in South Africa, you can check which Dr is closest to you. Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of schedule as you will be required to complete documentation prior to seeing the Dr.
Which School Is Best For Me?
As many individuals aspire to be cabin crew members it is advisable to attend an ATO who assists individuals with interviewing skills and compilation of CV’s, photographs for their CV’s and cover letters. This will assist the applicant in being better prepared for the interviewing process as many of these learners will be attending their first ever interview.
Do not pay for information sessions on cabin crew member training as the syllabus is available of the South African Civil Aviation Authority’s website or you can attend free information sessions with some ATO’s. It is also a good idea to get this information through blogs, Facebook pages or making contact with learners who have attended the training.
There are many Aviation Training Organisations (ATO’s) in South Africa and you are advised to carefully select the one you choose. Check the credentials of the company you chose to do your training with.
Aviation Training Organisations and schools can NOT guarantee employment. Airline operators advertise, interview and employ their own cabin crew, so be cautious of a crew training school that “guarantees employment”.
Suggestions And Warnings When Chosing A Training Organisation Includes:
Prospective cabin crew members are required to undergo x-rays and a medical assessment which forms part of the licensing process. Have this medical done prior to enrolling for training as this will avoid you paying training fees with an ATO which are normally not refundable should you be found medically unfit. Also check cost of the x-ray and examination prior to committing to a specific laboratory and Doctor.
When searching for a Training Organisation, ensure that the price you are quoted by the ATO is inclusive of all modules and requirements to complete the licensing process. These charges include:
